March 2002.
The Men's Vets have a squad of about 20 aged from about 40 to 65, some of which are more
active than others! Currently, we encourage everyone to land train twice a week with one
outing on Saturdays from 9am to 11am. During the summer months we tend to row on Tuesdays,
Thursdays, and Saturdays. Saturday mornings are the best time for new members to come and
have a look and meet the squad.
So far this year (2001/2) our Head racing schedule has included:
Autumn
Worcester Small Boats Head - One Vet D4+
Dee Autumn Head - Two Vet D4+s
Stourport Small Boats Head - Two Vet D4+s
Evesham Head - One Vet D4+, One Vet E4+ (Winner), one Vet C 2X, one Vet C 1X
Liverpool Victoria Head of the Float - Vet E 8+ (Winner)
Spring
Stourport Head - Vet F 8+ (Cancelled)
Worcester Head - Vet D8+ (Cancelled)
North of England Head -Two Vet D8+s
Vesta Veterans Head - Vet D8+
We have been quite active - probably too active considering the river conditions - with most of these entries being scratch crews taken from the squad. On the other hand we have had two wins, some good rows and a lot of fun! In fact as far as bums-on-seats is concerned it must be considered our best vet season for many years as I cannot remember us ever having the strength in depth to field two veteran eights in the same event before!
The shape of the vets' summer regatta season is as yet undecided, but the squad will almost certainly be fielding crews at all the local regattas - Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Ironbridge, Bewdley, Stourport. Perhaps also Evesham, Worcester, Hereford and Ross.
