Sculler Kathryn Weaver entered the gruelling Vesta Scullers Head alongside 400 competitors this Saturday. Racing Senior 4 and up against Tideway based scullers she turned in a time of 26min 5sec - well done, and yet again just about the only representative from the West Midlands to make it to this major event.

Meanwhile Daniella Baur continued her winning ways in Northwich - coming first at the short Autumn Head in Women's Junior 18 single sculls.

3/11/07
Pengwern Women's Quad followed up their win at Chester Long Distance Sculls with a good showing at the Head of the River Fours race in London today. Racing in a very competitive Senior 2 event they completed the Boat Race course in 23 minutes 34 seconds. They were the only crew from a West Midlands club in their section - well done!

Sculling at Gloucester Regatta

25/08/07
Late season Gloucester Regatta saw Pengwern scullers Gareth Davies and Andy Dawson enter Novice 1x. Gareth had a brilliant run in his first competitive sculling regatta and moved easily through heats including a dead heat re-row. To his surprise he got to the final and only lost out by three-quarters of a length.

Andy lost out in an early round of Novices and met tough opposition in Vet C.

Bewdley Off!
21/7/07
Yet another regatta is forced to cancel. Bewdley is off citing expected heavy flooding. This is the 3rd local regatta - picture and report on the Ironbridge website show how it's been since June.

Busy racing at Llandaff Regatta
18/7/07
Pengwern Novice VIII had a busy time at Llandaff regatta last weekend. Racing in Novices and Vet C meant tight turn arounds for the crew on the shortened course (due to high river). With new members on board they had two straight finals with a home VIII plus City of Bristol but lost out in both. Better luck at Bewdley!

Straight finals for Pengwern 8
12/7/07
The Pengwern 8 travels to Llandaff this Saturday for two straight finals in Novice and Vet C categories.

Shrewsbury School win at Henley
8/7/07
In an epic race Shrewsbury School first 8 win through by 1 foot! Canadians Brentwood College School took them right to the line in a thrilling Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup.
A foot is the tightest margin Henley allows - anything under that is considered a dead heat and they have to re-row. Well done Shrewsbury School!

6/7/07 Burton cancelled!
News just in - Burton Regatta cancelled due to continued floods.

Local Regatta entries
Bewdley Regatta entry is open via OARA - get your entries to Club Captain Natalie Horton.

July Plans - 1/7/07
Henley Royal Regatta
This week is Royal Regatta week and a coach is set to take club members down for a day of international racing, Pimms and strawberries on Wednesday.

The Pengwern 4s missed out on qualifying for the Wyfold on Friday - Andrew Weston writes, "both 4’s raced well and finished in identical times. Unfortunately not quick enough for the main event, however it has given club members a taste of Henley which will hopefully bode well for the next year".

The Pengwern Novice 8 has plans for Llandaff, Bewdley and Stourport regattas. Dave Webb has sent in details of their interactive website - you'll need a Username and Password from him to access.

Other Plans
Junior Squad members will be taking the trailer to Burton Regatta mid-July. Novice sculler Andy Dawson will also be at Burton then Bewdley and Warrington.

November 4th 2006: Northwich Head, Northwich.
Pengwern crews made it up to the Northwich Head on Saturday 4th November. Two crews came away with medals in their categories with wins for Natalie and Daniella Manna in WS3 2x with a time of 10:07.4; and Catherine and Charlotte in WS4 2x with a time of 10:11.2. Natalie and Daniella were not content with just racing in the double so they also raced each other in sculls coming in with respectable times of 10:58.5 and 11:13.8. Well done both crews.

November 1st 2006: Membership Renewal
It's Membership renewal time again folks. Membership is due for renewal on the 1st November every year. These people will not be permitted to use club facilities until their membership has been renewed.

October 21st 2006: Dee Autumn Head, Chester.
7 Pengwern crews made it up to the Dee Autmn Head on Saturday 22nd October. The crews all did their best to hold off their respective opposition, however unfortunately the mens and womens 4's and 8's lost out to the local crews. The men passed the finsh line without being overtaken, however they were pipped by two faster crews; to come 3rd fastest overall in the division. The women manged to hold off their opposition for most of the course only being overtaken on the final bend at the top of the home straight. The small boats all came away with medals in their various categories with wins for Natalie and Daniella Manna in WS3 2x; Pete Summers in VetE 1x; and Daniella Baur in WJ 1x.

September 28th 2006: Annual General Meeting.
Following the AGM in September we have some new faces on the committee. The Club now has a new Secretary, Safety officer and Captain. For more information follow the About Us link in the navigation bar on the left.

May 16th 2006: New look web site.
If you've been to this web-site in the past this one may look a little different. I'm currently in the process of updating the website, I've done a majority of the work on the design, now I have to work on getting the content up to date. I will endeavour to contact all of the Club coaches over the coming weeks to get a grip of recent news from their squads. Likewise I will be putting up a couple of notices around the Clubhouse to request for updates to the existing content and also for news worthy items.
I've tried to simplify the look and feel of the website, so some of the pages may have changed location, and likewise there will be some aditional pages and content added ver the coming weeks and then maintained from then on.
The general hint is "if it turns pink, it means it's a link" ...why pink it stood out the best from the the navy and the gold of the club colours.

May 15th 2006: Shrewsbury Regatta & Shrewsbury Sprint.
If you haven't noticed there was the annual Shrewsbury Regatta and Shrewsbury Sprint on at the weekend. Both days were over-subscribed as usual which meant we couldn't run all the events that were originally offered (unless we all wanted to finish racing at 23:00 on both days).
Saturday's weather wasn't the best. With it starting off as overcast, before having a few downpours and then sporadic showers. This didn't stop the raincing though, however I think some of the finalists would have been questioning why they were doing it, and those that were lucky enough to gte into the finals had reduced support due to both the weather and the FA Cup being on.
After a few heavy downpours overnight thankfully Sunday turned out to be a great day. There were the usual scratchings due to some crews being over-enthusiastic in the bar, but there was still a full race timetable. The local BBC web page has a few pictures (opens a new window) from the Saturday taken during the rain. There is also a short video clip on Shropshire TV about the regatta including an interview with our Regatta Secretary Ali Thomas Shropshire TV Item.
